RACHAEL RAY TO SERVE AS CLOSING KEYNOTE SPEAKER DURING NINTH ANNUAL INDIANA CONFERENCE FOR WOMEN

Susan Decker • Jul 13th, 2019

INDIANAPOLIS – Entrepreneur, television personality and New York Times bestselling author, Rachael Ray, will serve as the closing keynote speaker during the ninth annual Indiana Conference for Women (ICFW) on Thursday, Nov. 7.

“Conference attendees will be able to venture into Rachael’s world and her thrilling journey that includes her TV shows, magazines, cookbooks, pet food and nonprofit organizations,” said Deborah Collins Stephens, co-founder of ICFW with Billie Dragoo Garcia. “Rachael is one of America’s sweethearts and a testament to how hard work and passion can make your dreams come true. We look forward to Rachael embracing, enlightening and empowering all of us.”

She is the host of the Food Network’s 30 Minute Meals and Rachael Ray’s Kids Cook-Off, in addition to the Cooking Channel’s and Food Network’s Week in a Day. She is also the star of her syndicated talk show Rachael Ray, where she interviews celebrities along with health and wellness experts while ending each show with a cooking segment. The Rachael Ray Show has won three Emmy® Awards and several nominations. Ray serves as the founder and editorial director of her lifestyle magazine, Rachael Ray Every Day, which features how-to’s, recipes and more.

With the desire to improve lives, she started The Rachael Ray Foundation to support the idea that businesses that do well should do good. The Foundation is fully funded by proceeds from the sale of Rachael Ray Nutrish – a line of pet food and treats. The Foundation works to help animals in need, support Yum-o!-aligned organizations (empowering kids and families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking through the core areas of cook, feed and fund) and assist causes that are near and dear to Rachael’s heart. Rather than choosing to spend money on marketing campaigns or other administrative efforts, The Rachael Ray Foundation allocates its funds towards real-world efforts such as spay-neuter programs, intake prevention initiatives and backpack programs that help feed hungry families.

As her 50th birthday approached, Ray began to think about how her passion for food and feeding people developed over a lifetime – leading to her latest and upcoming book (October 15, 2019) – Rachael Ray 50: Memories and Meals from a Sweet and Savory Life: A Cookbook.

In the book, Ray reveals:

  • How her mother and Italian grandfather instilled in her a strong work ethic, problem solving skills and overall love of cooking
  • How her time as a dishwasher and soda fountain girl shaped her work philosophy
  • Why (two) muggings at gunpoint eventually led to her career in television
  • How competing (and winning) on the television competition show Iron Chef America turned out to be one of the hardest days of her life
  • Who the friends are she’s made during her journey

Peppered throughout the book, readers will find her kitchen and life wisdom along with her philosophy on how people can better serve the world and each other. The accompanying recipes range from all-time favorite recipes and meals to unexpected dishes like French cuisine, her endeavors into baking and some of her husband John’s tasty cocktails.

“Working in hospitality is hard on the body. But, if it’s in you, if it’s in your blood, kitchens are your happy place and food is as good for your soul as it is for feeding any appetite,” said Rachael Ray in her latest book – Rachael Ray 50: Memories and Meals from a Sweet and Savory Life: A Cookbook. “Every knick of the knife, every burn and every ache and pain can go almost unnoticed and ultimately is more than worth it. At fifty, I could be better looking but I couldn’t be more fulfilled.”

Ray will be joined by keynote speakers Miki and Radha Agrawal, twin sister entrepreneurs and authors, as well as Sheri Salata, longtime executive producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Sheri will lead both a morning and afternoon breakout. Additional keynote speakers and presenters will continue to be announced.
